Are you currently pregnant? Are you experiencing pain around your pelvis and lower back region?

💡 Pelvic Girdle Pain During Pregnancy

Many women will experience some form of Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) throughout their pregnancy, with 25-30% becoming severe.

⁉️ What is PGP?

Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) is classified as pain felt either at the front of the pelvis over the pubic joint, pain at the back of the pelvis near the sacroiliac joint or pain on one or both sides of the pelvis.

It can also refer to pain in the inner thigh (adductors), groin, vaginal or lower abdominal region.

Approximately 90% of woman recover from PGP within 12 months of having a baby, however, up to 10% of women have continued PGP pain up to 2 years post birth.

⁉️ What causes PGP?

Your body undergoes several changes during pregnancy. These include:

➡️ Hormonal changes – an increase in the hormone relaxin, increases the laxity of your ligaments.

➡️ Increasing weight of baby bearing down on your pelvic floor muscles.

➡️ Change in centre of gravity as your baby and stomach grow.
