Are you experiencing symptoms of dizziness and vertigo?
✅ Did you know physiotherapy can help with these?
🤔 The most common cause of vertigo is a condition called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
This involves a build-up of calcium carbonate particles in the ear canal, which can break free and cause abnormal stimulation of the sensory hair cells. This confuses our bodies vestibular system, which results in the brain responding with an episode of vertigo.
Some common triggers include:
➡️ Getting in and out of bed
➡️ Rolling over
➡️ Bending down
➡️ Looking up
➡️ Climbing Ladders
➡️ Washing your hair in the shower
➡️ Standing up suddenly
➡️ Sudden head movements
😵 These can lead to nausea, vomiting, headaches, and blurred vision.
🤔 So, how can physiotherapy help?
Treatment of BPPV involves taking you through a series of rotational movements to determine which canal in the ear is affected. Once this has been assessed a specific manoeuvre is performed to shift the loose particles out of the ear canal.
