Forward Head Posture
🚨 If you spend a lot of time at a desk looking at a screen, or looking down at your phone or media device, you may notice yourself developing a forward head posture.
🤔 What is forward head posture?
Forward head posture is defined by hyperextension of the upper neck joints, with forward translation of the lower neck joints.
This results in the loss of the neutral or natural curve of your neck.
This can lead to increased tension, muscle tightness and joint stiffness which affects our musculoskeletal and nervous system.
Other issues you may notice include:
➡️ Headaches
➡️ Neck discomfort
➡️ Muscle tension in the neck and shoulders
➡️ Discomfort in the mid back
➡️ Chest pain
➡️ Pain, pins & needles and numbness in the arms and hands
✅ How can I correct it?
Physiotherapy commonly helps a variety of postural problems, including forward head posture. Physiotherapy works to free up restricted joints, increase range of motion, reduce pain, reduce muscle tightness and tension and give you specific neck exercises to correct this condition.
