Olecranon bursitis is inflammation of the bursa (a small fluid filled sac), which lies over the point of your elbow, also known as the olecranon process.

Olecranon bursitis most commonly occurs due to repetitive or prolonged activities placing a strain on the olecranon bursa.

This includes prolonged resting of the elbow on a hard surface or repetitive pushing activities or straightening the elbow against resistance.

These activities can cause your triceps muscle/tendon to rub over the bursae, resulting in pain and swelling.

Common signs include:

➡️ Pain and swelling occurring over the rear of your elbow.

➡️ Pain when leaning on your elbow.

➡️ Increased pain when using your elbow, especially straightening, or bending your elbow.
